General Body

Myofascial pain is a pain syndrome characterized by painful trigger points. Trigger points are taut bands of muscle that are in a sustained state of contraction. Trigger points cause referred pain, meaning the pain travels to other parts of the body- usually down an arm or a leg. Myofascial pain can be caused by a sudden traumatic injury, chronic repetitive microtrauma, or can be due to an underlying spinal condition.

What treatments work? In the case of repetitive microtrauma, you need to address the underlying cause. Something you’re doing in your lifestyle routine is being done improperly and causing the muscles to become strained leading to myofascial pain. Addressing the underlying cause is key for long-term success. Stretching, exercise, physical therapy and techniques like myofascial release can be helpful. Dry needling can also help.

However, the most effective way to break up a painful trigger point is to physically get inside of the trigger point and disrupt it. Injecting fluid with a thin needle can disrupt the trigger point and break it up. Then when the muscle fibers heal, they heal in normal tone and normal alignment instead of in the constant painful, spasmodic state. If you think that you have myofascial pain or any other pain syndrome that has not gotten better, text or call our office.

Shoulder

Rotator Cuff Injuries

The rotator cuff muscles and tendons hold your upper arm bone in your shoulder socket. A hard fall, repetitive arm motions or problems with the structure of your shoulder can injure the rotator cuff.

Knee

Meniscus Tear

This is a common injury of the knee. Your knee joint is cushioned by two c-shaped wedges of cartilage called the “menisci.” Each individual cushion is called a “meniscus.” This injury is a tear of one of these cushions.

Osteoarthritis of the Knee

Osteoarthritis, also called degenerative arthritis, is a gradual breakdown of cartilage in the joints. Cartilage is a tough, flexible connective tissue that protects the ends of bones in the joints. Osteoarthritis is common in the knees because the knees bear the weight of the body. Osteoarthritis of the knee can severely impact a person’s lifestyle.

Viscosupplementation for Arthritis of the Knee

This is an injection of medicine into the knee joint. It lubricates your knee so the bones can glide smoothly. It can help lessen the pain of arthritis.
