PRP Injections Miami - for Spine & Orthopedics

What is PRP? How does PRP work?

Platelets are blood cell fragments that are rich in growth factors. When an injury occurs, platelets rush to the injury site and release growth factors to start the healing process. Platelets can be drawn from a patient’s own blood and concentrated. This is called platelet rich plasma or PRP. PRP can be injected into an injured ligament, muscle, joint or into the spine. PRP injections lead to healing by stimulating new collagen production resulting in healthier, stronger tissue, reduced pain and improved function.

Listen to Dr. Carter explain how PRP works and what make customized, high-dose PRP treatments work better and last longer than others.

What is High-dose PRP?

Not all PRP is the same! There are many different PRP systems that generate different volumes and concentrations of PRP. Studies show higher platelet counts are better for orthopedic conditions. Most PRP systems concentrate platelets about 5 times over one’s own baseline platelet count, in the millions to low billions, with the need for multiple treatments. Dr. Carter customizes the dose and volume of PRP using a unique multiple-spin protocol to generate high-dose PRP. Her treatments are done with platelet concentrations up to 25-30 times over baseline and total platelet counts and doses ranging from 12-24 billion platelets to achieve the best results possible with only ONE treatment.

PRP is an office-based treatment. Ultrasound or x-ray guidance should be used for injection precision. The entire procedure takes about an hour. Not everyone is a good candidate for PRP. A proper medical and orthopedic evaluation with imaging is recommended to avoid a waste of time and expense. Your doctor should also help you address the underlying cause of your injury and have an effective strategy to prevent your injury from occurring again

Why choose Alicia Carter, MD?

  • Dr. Carter is a board-certified sports medicine, Castle Connolly Top Doctor (top 7% in the USA). She has been helping professional athletes and performing artists with regenerative medicine for over 15 years.
  • Dr. Carter’s system can generate high-dose PRP up to 25-30 times above baseline levels. Most PRP systems can’t do this.
  • Over 90% of Dr. Carter’s patients need only 1 injection; not a series of 2-3 treatments recommended elsewhere.
  • Extra steps are taken to make the injection as painless as possible.
  • The entire procedure is done by Dr. Carter, even the blood draw, with ultrasound or x-ray guidance (not a nurse or assistant).
  • Dr. Carter designs a customized rehabilitation protocol that her patients can do on their own or with a PT/trainer.
  • Dr. Carter has some of the best outcomes. Patients who receive PRP elsewhere eventually come to see Dr. Carter when their treatments don’t work or don’t last.

Hear CBS Sports Analyst and former NFL Linebacker Brian Jones describe his successful response to a single PRP treatment for a rotator cuff tear in his shoulder and a successful bone marrow stem cell therapy for a meniscal tear and arthritis in his knee. Both treatments were done by Dr. Alicia Carter.

* A caution to patients “shopping” for the cheapest PRP price – a cheap price is often associated with a poor response. Be sure to ask if a doctor will be doing your injection, how many injections you will need under their care, and the total cost for all treatments.
